Four trips we will not sell you as a day trip
Every one of these is bookable somewhere in town as a single day. Here is why we do not sell them that way, and what we sell instead.
Wae Rebo in one day
Why not. 130–150 km and 4.5–6 hours of driving each way to the Denge / Dintor trailhead, then a 2.5–3 hour trek up and the same back down. On those figures it is a 14-to-18-hour day before anything goes wrong, and the last stretch is broken highland surface that needs a Fortuner 4×4.
What we sell instead. 2 days, 1 night: drive after lunch, sleep at Denge or Dintor, walk up at first light, return the following afternoon.
Wae Rebo car transfer (SUV + driver) →Cunca Wulang after a 13:00 start
Why not. The drive is 1–1.5 hours each way, and as a rule of thumb we allow about 3 hours on site including the walk in and out. That is a 5-to-6-hour day: leave at 08:00 and you are back by 13:00–14:00, but leave at 13:00 and the same arithmetic puts you back at 18:00–19:00, on an unlit hill road in the dark. The road is fine; the darkness is the problem.
What we sell instead. A 07:00 departure on the 12-hour block, or the same route as a half-day out-and-back with the waterfall dropped.
12-hour full-day block →Ruteng or Bajawa and back
Why not. These are Trans-Flores mountain legs, not day trips. Ruteng is roughly 125 km and about 4 hours one way; Bajawa is 275–300 km and 8–10 hours one way. Doubling either of those in a day puts you on a mountain road in the dark, and in the wet season landslides change the answer week to week.
What we sell instead. A multi-day charter with a night in Ruteng, and a second night before Bajawa. The timing for your dates is confirmed in writing on WhatsApp.
Flores overland package →Kelimutu or Maumere as a return run
Why not. Kelimutu is 450–500 km and three days one way via Ruteng and Moni; the full Maumere traverse is 640–680 km over five to seven days. The crater lakes are worth a sunrise, and a sunrise means sleeping near them. Driving either back out doubles the mountain days for nothing.
What we sell instead. A one-way traverse with a drop in Maumere and a fly-out, or Kelimutu with the nights built in.

Not a gallery. Each strip shows passenger capacity, a luggage rule of thumb, the indicative USD day-rate band as of 2026, and the road grades that vehicle is cleared for. We separate rates from estimates
The USD day-rate bands are the figures our desk quotes. Distances, drive times and time-on-site are planning estimates — we do not present them as measurements.
We show a band, never a single number
A road is a range, not a promise. The estimates assume dry-season daylight, no market-day traffic, no rain.
We print the gap when we have nothing
Where no figure exists — a rate band, a boot volume, an EV range — the cell reads not published and the desk quotes it on WhatsApp. We would rather print a gap than a guess.
We re-check every quote before you pay
Roadworks, landslides and ferry timings change. Your final quote is confirmed on WhatsApp against the road as it is that week.
Delay, breakdown and cancellation, in plain language
- Delay. If your flight into Komodo Airport (LBJ) slips, the car waits. Tell dispatch the new arrival and we re-time the day.
- Breakdown. If a vehicle fails, we send a replacement from Labuan Bajo. Inland, that takes hours — which is exactly why we insist on the right class for the road grade.

How much is car rental in Labuan Bajo per day?
As of 2026 our indicative day rates are Avanza USD 25–38 (5–6 passengers), Innova USD 31–50 (6–7), Innova Zenix USD 44–63 (6–7) and Fortuner 4×4 USD 56–88 (6–7), per vehicle, with driver, fuel and parking included. The EV pool is indicatively from USD 65 per day. HiAce (10–14), Alphard (4) and the Elf minibus (15–19) have no published band and are quoted on WhatsApp — we do not print a figure we have not fixed. There is no fixed public tariff; every rate is confirmed in writing before payment.
Can I self-drive in Labuan Bajo?
Practically, no. Self-drive supply on Flores is rare and with-driver is the local format. The roads outside town are narrow, unlit and shared with trucks and livestock, and recovery inland takes hours. Our rate is a crewed vehicle for that reason, not as an upsell. Can I visit Wae Rebo in one day from Labuan Bajo?
We will not sell it as one day. The drive to the Denge / Dintor trailhead is 4.5–6 hours each way and the walk to the village is another 2.5–3 hours each way, on broken highland surface that needs a Fortuner 4×4. We sell it as 2 days and 1 night. See the Wae Rebo car transfer.
Why is car rental here more expensive than Bali?
Three structural reasons: the local fleet is small and vehicles are ferried in, the rate is a crewed vehicle for roughly twelve hours rather than a car key, and fuel, parking and driver are inside the figure. How early should I book, and what happens if my flight is late?
The local fleet is small and June to September sells out first for HiAce, Alphard and SUVs, so book those weeks well ahead.
