As of 2026 the normal arrangement in Labuan Bajo is with driver — self-drive is rare because of narrow Flores roads, limited signage and mixed road quality outside the town.
What is the difference between a full-day charter and a fixed tour?
A fixed-itinerary tour sells you a pre-set list of stops with a set departure and a set return. A charter sells you the vehicle and the driver for a block of time. That distinction matters more in Labuan Bajo than in most destinations, because your day often mixes unrelated errands: a harbour drop at dawn, a hotel check-in mid-morning, a viewpoint at sunset, an airport run the next morning.
- You set the stops. Add Batu Cermin, Rangko, Cunca Wulang or a coffee stop on the way — no re-booking, no supplement for a changed order.
- The driver handles the logistics. Road conditions, realistic drive times, where a HiAce can and cannot turn around, and which access roads need high clearance.
- Time is the unit, not the itinerary. If you finish early, the day simply ends early. If you want to swap the afternoon plan at lunch, you can.
- Overland-ready if the day grows. The same vehicle class can continue west-to-east on Flores the next morning as part of a Flores overland package.
What is included in a full-day car charter?
Our standard full-day charter includes the vehicle, a licensed local driver, fuel for the agreed area of use, and driver meals and allowance. It does not include national park or attraction entrance fees, boat tickets, ferry crossings, guide fees at trekking sites, or your own meals. Where a route includes a slow mountain section that will cost more hours than the map suggests, we say so at quoting stage rather than after departure. Can the driver wait while I am on a boat trip?
Yes, and this is one of the most common uses of a full-day charter here. Many guests take a Komodo day boat or a liveaboard departure from the harbour area and want the car available on return. Two arrangements are possible: the driver waits within the charter block (waiting time counts as used hours), or the driver drops you, releases, and returns at a confirmed pick-up time — usually the cheaper option for a full boat day. Because Komodo National Park itself is reachable only by boat, every car leg here is land-side: hotel to marina, marina to hotel, nothing more.

Choice is driven by passenger count, luggage and road surface. For town-and-coast days almost anything works; for Wae Rebo access roads, Ruteng and the trans-Flores route, higher clearance is the practical answer.

Frequently asked questions
How many hours is a “full day”?
Ten to twelve hours from the agreed pick-up time. Beyond that, extra hours are charged pro-rata and agreed before they are used — we do not add hours silently.
Can I change the route during the day?
Yes. That is the point of a charter. The only limits are safety, legal road access and total hours; if a change pushes the day well past the block, the driver will say so before you commit.
Is self-drive available?
We operate car rental with driver only. Flores road conditions, unfamiliar traffic patterns and insurance exposure make self-drive a poor trade for visitors, and most reputable operators here take the same position.
Can a full-day charter continue into a multi-day trip?
Yes. The same vehicle and driver can continue toward Ruteng, Bajawa, Ende, Kelimutu or Maumere. One-way drops are possible with a return-leg component in the quote.
