The classic west loop: Melo, Cunca Wulang, Rangko
Depart 07:00. Melo Village sits roughly 17 km from town — about 40 minutes uphill — for the Caci dance viewpoint and the Mbeliling ridgeline. Continue to Cunca Wulang, around 30 km inland with a 20 to 30 minute trek down to the canyon; budget three hours here including swimming. Lunch in Werang or back toward town, then Rangko in the afternoon: a 40-minute drive plus a short local boat to the saltwater cave pool. Back in Labuan Bajo before sunset. This fills the block comfortably and is the itinerary most 12-hour bookings actually use.
The Cancar spiderweb run — the honest version
Cancar’s lingko spiderweb rice fields sit near Ruteng, roughly 130 km east of Labuan Bajo. That is four hours of mountain driving each way. Done as an out-and-back in one 12-hour block you get eight hours in the car for about ninety minutes on the ground, plus overtime risk if anything slows the road. We will run it if you want it, but we tell guests plainly: Cancar works far better either as an overnight to Ruteng, or as the first leg of an overland Flores itinerary where you sleep in Ruteng and continue to Wae Rebo or Bajawa the next morning.
The first overland leg
Many guests use the 12-hour block as day one of a multi-day overland: Labuan Bajo to Ruteng with stops at Lembor rice terraces and Cancar, ending at a Ruteng hotel. The car and driver then continue with you on a multi-day rate rather than a fresh day rate each morning.

How do overtime and out-of-town surcharges work?
Overtime applies after the 12th hour, charged per started hour, and is confirmed in writing before you depart — never invented afterwards. Any route that goes past Ruteng (Wae Rebo, Bajawa, Ende, Maumere) leaves the standard day-rate zone and is quoted as an out-of-town or multi-day job, because the driver cannot return to base the same night and needs accommodation. Yes. Early starts around 05:00 are common for Cancar or a Ruteng leg, and for guests who want Melo in soft morning light. The 12 hours simply run from the earlier start.
What if we finish early — is there a refund?
No. The block is priced per day, not per hour used, because the vehicle and driver are committed to you for the whole date. Finishing at hour nine costs the same as finishing at hour twelve.
Can we change the itinerary mid-day?
Within reason, yes — swapping Rangko for a beach stop is fine. Adding a destination that pushes you well past 12 hours triggers overtime, and the driver will tell you before it happens, not after.
Is the driver an English-speaking guide?
