Electric Car (EV) Rental Labuan Bajo | 2026 Rates

Yes, you can rent an electric car in Labuan Bajo — for the right kind of trip. As of 2026 we release EVs for town driving, airport runs and the standard city-tour loop: a compact city EV in the Wuling Air EV class, or a mid-size electric SUV in the Toyota bZ4X class when one is free on your dates. We do not put EVs on long Flores overland legs, and we say so before you pay rather than after.

Electric rental here is a thin, English-underserved market, and much of what you find online is copied from Bali pages assuming a charging network West Manggarai does not yet have.

Which electric cars can you rent in Labuan Bajo as of 2026?

Two classes, both subject to availability on your dates:

  • City EV — Wuling Air EV class. A small four-seat electric hatch with a small battery. Genuinely well suited to town: narrow enough for the lanes behind the waterfront, easy to park, very cheap per kilometre. Luggage is the limit — two soft bags, not four hard cases.
  • Electric SUV — Toyota bZ4X class. A mid-size electric SUV with a large battery, strong air conditioning and real boot space for dive bags or camera cases. Held in small numbers, so it is release-on-confirmation rather than always-on-standby.

Both are released with a driver by default. Self-drive is possible on the city EV for guests comfortable with Indonesian town traffic who accept the charging routine below. If you would rather not think about state of charge at all, the conventional fleet on our car rental with driver page is the simpler answer, and often the cheaper one.

How far does an EV really go around Labuan Bajo?

Further than you need for town, and less than the brochure figure — for two local reasons. Hills: Labuan Bajo is built on slopes and almost every route out of the harbour climbs, which draws more energy per kilometre than flat-road test figures suggest. A small-battery city EV shows it on the gauge quickly. Air conditioning: here it is not optional, so it is a permanent load rather than an occasional one. Treat published range as laboratory conditions and plan meaningfully below it.

In practice, a city EV covers a full day of town errands, hotel-to-restaurant movement and one or two airport runs with margin. An electric SUV covers the whole city-tour loop including viewpoint climbs and still comes home with reserve. If your itinerary would eat that reserve, we quote a conventional car instead.

Where do you charge an EV in Labuan Bajo?

Honestly: overnight charging at your hotel is the realistic base. We will not publish a map of public fast chargers on your behalf — coverage across West Manggarai is thin compared with Bali or Java, and station status changes. A rental page is the wrong place to promise a charger that may not be energised on the day you land.

So the check happens before confirmation. You tell us which property you are staying at; we check what it can actually support — a dedicated wallbox where one exists, or a protected outdoor socket for slow overnight charging with the manufacturer cable. If it cannot, we say the EV is not workable for your stay. That belongs at quote stage, not at handover.

Which trips do we route on EV, and which do we refuse?

Released on EV: airport pickup and drop-off, hotel transfers within town, evening restaurant and harbour movement, and the standard city-tour loop with its viewpoint and cave stops. Short predictable distances are exactly what a battery is good at, and the silence is a real upgrade on a 5 a.m. harbour departure.

Not released on EV: long overland Flores legs. Ruteng, Bajawa, the Wae Rebo trailhead, Kelimutu — multi-hour mountain drives with no dependable charging at the far end. Those go on conventional vehicles, which is why we keep them on the Flores overland page. For arrivals and departures, see airport car rental.

How do you book an electric car here?

  1. Message us on WhatsApp with your dates, hotel name, passenger and luggage count, and roughly what you want to do each day.
  2. We check two things: EV availability for those exact dates, and charging feasibility at your hotel. Both must work; if either fails we say so plainly.
  3. You receive a written USD quote listing vehicle class, driver, charging arrangement, hours and exclusions — no surcharges appearing at pickup.
  4. Confirm and the vehicle is held. Driver details follow before arrival day, and the car turns up charged.

How much does electric car rental in Labuan Bajo cost?

Pricing is quote-based in USD, because the honest number depends on hours, distance, pickup point and season. The bands below are indicative, published so you can budget.

Service Best for Indicative USD per day
City EV (Air EV class), with driver Town loops, 2 guests, light luggage from approx. 55–75
City EV, self-drive, town use Confident drivers, hotel charging in place from approx. 40–55
Electric SUV (bZ4X class), with driver Family or crew, luggage, longer comfort from approx. 130–170
City-tour loop by EV, up to 8 hours Viewpoints, cave and harbour circuit from approx. 80–110

Disclaimer: these figures are indicative estimates as of 2026, not a binding offer. Final pricing is confirmed in writing per booking and varies with season, itinerary, availability and energy costs. We do not forecast regulatory or duty outcomes for future years. Airport transfers can be quoted per leg rather than per day. For the whole fleet side by side, see the price list.

Frequently asked questions

Can I take a rental EV to Ruteng or Wae Rebo?

No. We do not release electric vehicles for long overland Flores routes, because charging at the far end cannot be relied on. We will quote a conventional vehicle, and it will simply be the better car for the job.

Is self-drive available on the electric cars?

On the city EV class, yes, for town use, subject to a valid licence and the usual deposit and document checks. The electric SUV is released with a driver. Self-drive guests are briefed on the overnight charging routine at their accommodation before handover.

What happens if the battery runs low during the day?

The driver plans the day around the battery, and the itinerary is agreed in advance so this does not arise. If an unplanned detour would push the car past its reserve, the driver flags it before you commit, and we arrange a swap to a conventional vehicle rather than gamble on the last twenty kilometres.

Is an EV cheaper than a normal rental car here?

The small city EV is usually cheaper for pure town use. The electric SUV is not a budget choice; it sits with the premium classes, and guests pick it for comfort, quietness and low emissions rather than savings.
