What makes the Innova Zenix different from a regular Innova?
The Kijang Innova Zenix is the generation Toyota introduced for the Indonesian market in late 2022, and it is a redesign rather than a facelift. Three differences are the ones passengers actually notice on Flores roads:
- Cabin noise. The Zenix uses more sound insulation and, in hybrid form, runs on electric drive at low speed. Conversation inside the car at town speeds is noticeably easier than in the older diesel Innova.
- Ride quality. It moved to a monocoque, front-wheel-drive platform, so the ride over patched asphalt is smoother and less truck-like.
- Fuel efficiency. The hybrid drivetrain uses less fuel per kilometre, which matters on long Flores driving days more than it does around town.
The honest trade-off: because the Zenix is front-wheel drive rather than the older rear-drive diesel layout, it is a road car, not a rough-track car. For steep unpaved access roads it is the wrong tool, and we say so before you book rather than after.
